CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

The plan is guilt's whole strategy laid bare. First the attack, then the hiding of it, then the invention of an outside enemy to carry the blame. A mind that means to harm its brother cannot bear its own hand in the deed, so it summons an evil beast, a threat from beyond itself, and calls that the cause. The beast is fear given a shape, the guilt of the attacker projected into the world so it seems to come from without.

The pit is the darkness where a mind buries what it will not own. And the taunt, that they will watch what becomes of his dreams, is the ego's certainty that love can be silenced. It cannot. What is real waits in the dark until the mind is ready to lift it out.

Pit: the darkness where the mind hides the brother it has condemned and refuses to look on him Evil beast: fear given an outward shape, the mind's own guilt disguised as a danger that comes from beyond it

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

Envy turns murderous when someone carries a promise the others cannot stand. The brothers hate the dreamer because his dreams put him above them, and they imagine that killing him will kill the future those dreams foretold. The pit and the lie about a wild animal are the cover for a wish they cannot admit even to themselves.

Their mistake is believing a dream lives only in the person who dreams it. It does not. The vision came from a source deeper than the boy, so throwing him into a pit cannot destroy it. It sends him down into the very darkness where such things grow, and the promise they wanted to end simply goes on without their permission.

Live Genesis 37:20 today

  1. If you did something today that you have already started explaining away, stop the explanation and say the plain version to yourself. The invented cause costs more to maintain than the truth does.
  2. When you have hurt someone, say the real sentence: I did this. Skip the part about how circumstances made it happen.
  3. Under pressure at work, resist the urge to pin a mistake on traffic, the system, or the other team. Own your part first and the room relaxes instead of hunting.

What have I buried and then blamed on something outside me?
