Judah is the right hemisphere, the spirit, the tribe of light within a person, and it is the light-side that will not let the visionary faculty be destroyed outright. When the lower brothers move against Joseph, the dreamer and seer in the mind, it is the higher, praising part of the self that stays their hand and keeps that inner life from being wholly spilled.

ESOTERIC
Judah is the right hemisphere, the spirit, the tribe of light within a person, and it is the light-side that will not let the visionary faculty be destroyed outright. When the lower brothers move against Joseph, the dreamer and seer in the mind, it is the higher, praising part of the self that stays their hand and keeps that inner life from being wholly spilled. The seer is not killed; he is only sent down for a season into the lower places, as the Christ within always is before it rises.
This is the same betrayal and burial that returns later in the story of Jesus, told first in one man and then in another, because it is one event happening inside every person. The higher self intervenes so the inner life-force is preserved rather than lost, and what goes down into darkness is held for a rising still to come.
Judah: the right hemisphere, the spirit, the light-side tribe within that guards the higher faculty Joseph: the dreamer and visionary faculty, the seer sent down into the lower places before rising Blood: the inner life-force, the life of that visionary faculty

The wild ox is never slaughtered, only roped and led home. What is unruly in us is preserved and worked with, not killed.
The birds must cross valleys of loss and annihilation before they arrive, and the crossing is part of the arriving. What drops away in the dark is not wasted.
