Genesis 39:3 Meaning His Master Saw That Yahweh Was

His master saw that Yahweh was with him, and that Yahweh made all that he did prosper in his hand.

What does Genesis 39:3 mean?

When the higher mind rules within a person, the work of the hands turns fruitful, and even the outer keeper of the body senses that something ordered and awake is moving inside. Joseph is the faculty of increase, the part able to add and to build, and his prosperity is not luck but the sign that spirit is threaded through the hands, through the daily acts a person performs.

The master who sees is the flesh itself, the outer authority that cannot name what it feels but knows the difference between an emptied laborer and one lit from within.

The hand is where inner presence becomes visible, because thought only becomes real where it is worked out in doing.

Joseph: the increasing faculty in a person, the power that adds and stores and makes small beginnings grow The hand: the point where inner presence turns into outward act, thought made real in doing The master: the outer, fleshly authority of the body that senses spirit without being able to name it

Live Genesis 39:3 today

  1. Pick one task today, the smallest one, and do it with your whole attention instead of half. People can tell. They cannot say what it is, but they can tell.
  2. Tell someone exactly what you saw them do well, not a general compliment. Describe the thing their hands actually did.
  3. When you are rushed and tempted to half-send the email, give it the extra minute. Whatever is awake in you only becomes real where it comes out through your hands.

If someone watched only your hands today, what would they guess about your inner life?

Zen · the Hyakujo saying

A day without working is a day without eating. Realization that never reaches the hands is not realization yet.

Krishna tells Arjuna to act, and to act well, letting go of the harvest. The inner state shows up as the quality of the work, not as a result you can hold.

The saying goes that it is not on you to finish the work, but you are not free to walk away from it either. Faithfulness is measured in doing.
