The food will be to supply the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; so that the land will not perish through the famine.

Genesis 41:36 · World English Bible
The food will be to supply the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; so that the land will not perish through the famine.
Nothing about a full year feels like a warning, which is exactly why the full years decide the lean ones. Abundance disables the lever that moves most people.

SELF-HELP
Nothing about a full year feels like a warning, which is exactly why the full years decide the lean ones.
Abundance disables the lever that moves most people. There is no present pain to escape and a great deal of present pleasure to move toward, so the state during good years runs toward consumption, consumption hardens into habit, and habit is still running when the harvest fails.
Laying up grain against a famine nobody can feel yet requires making the future vivid enough to move the body today, which is the entire discipline behind a granary. Do it and the same event that empties everyone else hands a nation leverage, because ruin and ascendancy are the same seven years met with different reserves. Skip it and every option narrows to one: asking somebody else for bread.

What am I spending today only because today feels safe?
The ant spends the summer carrying grain while the grasshopper sings. Winter does not negotiate.
Rehearse the loss while you still have the thing. The person who has pictured hardship ahead of time is never handed it raw.
Everything that comes together comes apart. Living with that in view changes what you do with a good season rather than ruining it.
