Guilt cannot bear to be welcomed. Drawn toward the very house where reconciliation waits, a mind convinced of its own wrongdoing reads the invitation as a trap and builds an accuser out of thin air. The returned silver, a gift it never earned, becomes in its telling the evidence for a coming assault. This is how the ego works: what it carries within, it hangs upon another and calls it justice about to fall.
Nothing in that house intends harm, yet fear arrives already certain of the sentence. A mind that expects to be seized has simply met its own guilt walking toward it, and mistaken the mirror for a hand raised to strike.
House: the sheltered place in the mind where love waits to receive what fear has kept outside
Money returned in the sacks: the unearned gift the guilty mind cannot accept, and turns into proof of a charge against it
Bondmen: the self-image of the mind that believes its own guilt has already condemned it to punishment
