Genesis 44:17 · World English Bible
He said, “Far be it from me that I should do so. The man in whose hand the cup is found, he will be my slave; but as for you, go up in peace to your father.”
The cup is the vessel of consciousness, the hollow that holds the living wine of awareness, and the hand in which it is found marks the one part of the self that has been carrying the sacred contents all along. Whoever holds the cup is bound to stay in the lower country and serve, because the faculty that carries the higher life cannot yet return upward with the rest; it is held back in Egypt, the body, to do its work there.

ESOTERIC
The cup is the vessel of consciousness, the hollow that holds the living wine of awareness, and the hand in which it is found marks the one part of the self that has been carrying the sacred contents all along. Whoever holds the cup is bound to stay in the lower country and serve, because the faculty that carries the higher life cannot yet return upward with the rest; it is held back in Egypt, the body, to do its work there.
The others are released in peace to go up to the father, the higher source, while the cup-bearer remains below. This is the ordinary condition of a person in whom one center is still tied to the flesh even as the other parts long for the ascent home.
Cup: the vessel of consciousness that holds the living contents of awareness within a person Father: the higher source above, the origin the awakened parts of the self are drawn back toward Egypt: the body and its lower world, the land where a part of the self is held to serve
Esoteric lens
What part of my life am I serving in while quietly wishing I had been let go?
The one who has seen the deeper thing still does the work in front of them, staying in the field and acting without grasping at the fruit.
After the opening comes chopping wood and carrying water. The realization does not lift you out of the ordinary day, it sends you back into it.
The useful tree is cut down and the crooked one lives out its life. What is bound to serve stays where the service is needed, and that place has its own kind of completion.
