CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

A mind that had grieved a loss as final discovers the loss was never real. What it mourned as gone forever stands before it living, and more than living, multiplied. This is the shape of every reunion in the mind: what fear declared dead, love reveals was only hidden. Grief was the belief that a part of oneself could be truly lost, and that belief dissolves the moment the mind looks with different eyes.

The face thought never to be seen again is seen, and the seeing undoes years of imagined separation. A mind healed of its mourning learns that nothing it loves was ever actually taken from it.

Israel: the identity that once believed in irreversible loss, now seeing that nothing beloved was ever gone Joseph's face: the beloved part of the mind mourned as lost, restored to sight the moment fear releases its grip Thy seed: the increase of what was thought dead, the proof that love multiplies rather than diminishes what fear had buried

Live Genesis 48:11 today

  1. Open the old photos tonight instead of swiping past them. Look at the face you thought you had lost and let it be a visit rather than a wound.
  2. Reach out to someone you assumed had written you off, the friend who faded, the family member you stopped calling. Send one plain message and find out whether the loss was ever real.
  3. When you catch yourself certain that something good is finished for you, the friendship, the health, the chance, pause before you build the rest of the day on that certainty. You have been wrong about endings before.

What have I already decided is gone forever, without checking?

The same truth in other traditions

Sufism · Rumi

What you mourn as gone has only slipped out of sight, the way the sun has not died at nightfall. Grief is a statement about your eyes, not about what is real.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

Zhuangzi stopped weeping for his wife once he saw her passing as one turn in a season that never actually loses anything. The sorrow went out of it when the seeing changed.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Nothing was ever taken from you, because nothing was ever yours to keep in the first place. What you had, you had, and the having is not undone.
