Genesis 49:28 · World English Bible

Genesis 49:28 Meaning All These Are the Twelve Tribes

All these are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father spoke to them, and blessed them. He blessed everyone according to his own blessing.

What does Genesis 49:28 mean?

The number 12 is the full circle of powers within a person, the complete set of faculties distributed through the awakened body, the same 12 that appears as signs around the zodiac and centers along the spine. The 12 tribes are these 12 energies of the one inner being, each carrying its own distinct quality and function, none identical to another.

Israel, read as isra-el, the one who strives with God and prevails, is the whole integrated self in which all 12 powers are gathered under a single source.

Blessing every one according to his blessing is the ordering of these faculties, each receiving the particular activation that suits its nature, so that the whole system works as a unity of differentiated parts. The father who speaks is the higher governing consciousness assigning to each center its proper role. A complete person is not one power but 12 in harmony, every faculty awakened to its own place in the body.

Live Genesis 49:28 today

  1. Name one ability of yours you keep underusing because it is not the one you are known for, and give it twenty minutes today.
  2. Tell one person what they are specifically good at, the real thing, not the generic compliment, and let them hear that their particular part matters.
  3. When a team or a family argument turns into everyone wanting the same role today, ask instead what each person is actually for here, and take the piece that fits you even if it is not the loud one.

Which parts of me have I left out of the picture because they do not look like the ones I lead with?
