Genesis 5:2 Meaning He Created Them Male and Female

He created them male and female, and blessed them. On the day they were created, he named them Adam.

What does Genesis 5:2 mean?

Two are made, male and female, yet a single name is laid over both, and that name is Adam, the generic Man in whom God has fallen asleep. The one name for the pair shows they are not two separate beings but one, divided only in appearance.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Two are made, male and female, yet a single name is laid over both, and that name is Adam, the generic Man in whom God has fallen asleep. The one name for the pair shows they are not two separate beings but one, divided only in appearance. The female is the emanation of the man, brought out of him and belonging to him, so the blessing rests on a single life wearing two forms.

These are not an ancient couple. They are the reader's own account, the story of the one Man asleep as every person. God became this sleeping Adam so that Adam might in time wake as God. What looks like a beginning of the human race is the naming of the one being in whom the whole drama is set to unfold.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

Male and female are the 2 poles alive in every single person, the active and receptive forces inside one nervous system, the outgoing current and the inward current that together run the body. Adam is red earth, the ground of matter the soul takes on when it enters flesh, and both currents carry the one name because they are one being wearing 2 motions.

The blessing is the charge of life that keeps the pair working as one. What is drawn as the first pair on the first page is the split within a single body, spirit descending into clay and moving through it by these 2 forces at once.

Adam: red earth, the clay of the physical body the soul puts on when it comes into matter Male and female: the outgoing and inward currents of the one life-force running through the body

Live Genesis 5:2 today

  1. Catch yourself splitting your day into the good hours and the wasted ones. Try holding all of it as one life, the commute as much as the meeting.
  2. With someone you disagree with today, in a group chat or at the dinner table, look for the place where you are actually the same person facing the same thing. Speak from that place rather than from your side.
  3. When you feel pulled in two directions under pressure, the part of you that wants to run and the part that wants to fight, stop treating them as enemies. They are both you, and you get to decide which one speaks.

Where am I treating one life as if it were two?

Taoism · Tao Te Ching 2

High and low, long and short, come into being together and define each other. What looks like two is one thing seen from both sides.

Hinduism · Chandogya Upanishad

That subtle essence at the root of everything is what you yourself are. The many faces are one life wearing different names.

Zen

Before you divide the world into this and that, it is already whole. The dividing is done by the mind, not by what is there.
