CHRISTIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Christian Psychology

Love does not stand where the ego expects a judge to stand. A mind ruled by guilt keeps looking for someone with the authority to condemn it, and love answers that no such throne exists. To refuse the seat of judge is to say that there is nothing here to punish and no one qualified to punish it, for judgment itself belongs to the dream and not to what is real.

When a mind lays down the belief that it must be sentenced, fear has nothing left to feed on. The answer to guilt is not a lighter verdict but the recognition that the courtroom was never there at all.

Joseph: the loving mind that declines to judge, showing that no accuser occupies the place fear imagines God: the changeless Love that never condemns, the only authority, which holds no verdict against anyone

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The ego loves to sit in judgment. It keeps a careful record of every wrong done to it and longs for the moment when it can deliver the sentence. To forgive can feel like a loss, because judging others is one of the ways the false self makes itself feel large and righteous.

But the one who has awakened asks quietly, am I in the place of God? He sees that holding himself as judge over others is a burden that was never his to carry. When you release the compulsion to condemn, you stop feeding the grievance, and both you and the one you have forgiven are set free from the past.

Live Genesis 50:19 today

  1. Catch one harsh ruling you make about yourself in the mirror today and let it go unanswered. You do not have to argue with it or agree with it.
  2. When someone tells you about something they did badly, do not grade it. Just say "thanks for telling me" and stay on their side of the table.
  3. In the meeting where blame is getting assigned, be the one who asks what we do next instead of who caused it. Dropping the verdict usually moves the room faster than finding it.

Who am I still waiting to be sentenced by?

As soon as you split the world into good and bad, you have made two prisons. The wise stop sorting and let things be as they are.

Zen

A student asked for a verdict, and the teacher poured him tea. There was no judge in the room, only two people and something warm.

It is not events that disturb us but our judgments about them. Set down the gavel and most of the disturbance goes quiet.
