Genesis 6:11 Meaning The Earth Was Corrupt Before God

The earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

What does Genesis 6:11 mean?

The earth is the body, the ground of flesh in which consciousness lives, and its corruption is the state of a person given wholly over to the lower appetites until the whole field of the body is spoiled. Violence filling the earth is the inner condition where the raw forces of the lower nature have overrun every part, the animal drives ruling without governance and tearing at the vessel that houses them.

What this describes in a person is a body flooded by its own ungoverned energies, the flesh become a battleground of unchecked drives. When the lower forces are left without a ruling center they do not merely disorder the body, they fill it with their own destruction.

  1. When you reach for your phone without deciding to, stop your hand halfway and ask what you were actually looking for. The honest answer is usually not the app you were about to open.
  2. In the next conversation where you feel heat rising, let the other person finish their whole sentence before you say anything. One held breath is often the difference between a talk and a fight.
  3. When the pressure spikes at work, name what your body is doing before you act on it. Jaw tight, chest fast, hands restless, then decide what the moment actually needs.

Dhammapada

The untrained mind does more harm to a person than any enemy could. Left without a steady hand, craving and anger wreck the very life they live in.

Bhagavad Gita 6

The senses pull like horses with no driver, and whoever holds the reins becomes their own friend. Whoever drops the reins becomes their own enemy.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Appetite and anger are not ruling powers, they are servants that take over when no one is home. Put reason back on the seat and the household quiets.
