Habakkuk 3:4 Meaning His Splendor Is Like the Sunrise

His splendor is like the sunrise. Rays shine from his hand, where his power is hidden.

What does Habakkuk 3:4 mean?

Light pours from the hand, yet the strength itself stays hidden, and the heart wants proof it can hold, a power it can measure and claim. That craving to grasp the source is a quiet pride.

Sufism

Light pours from the hand, yet the strength itself stays hidden, and the heart wants proof it can hold, a power it can measure and claim. That craving to grasp the source is a quiet pride. The cure is to receive the rays gratefully and stop demanding to see the sun bare.

Every bright thing a person meets is a beam let out from a hand that never fully shows itself. The world is the dawn; the splendor behind it keeps its secret. To love the light without seizing its origin is to let God be present exactly as He gives Himself, generous and still veiled.

Live Habakkuk 3:4 today

  1. Take in something good today, warm light on the way to work, a song, someone's laugh, without turning it into a thing you need to explain or own.
  2. Let someone help you with something and just say thank you. No returning the favor on the spot, no making it even.
  3. When you want credit for something you did and nobody is giving it, let the wanting sit there unanswered. The good of it does not shrink because nobody said so.

What are you trying to hold that was only ever given?

Tao Te Ching 14

The Tao is called the form of the formless, met everywhere and seen nowhere, and looking straight at it shows nothing. You follow it by what it gives off.

Upanishads

The teaching says the self cannot be seen the way a thing is seen, because it is the one doing the seeing. The eye does not get to look at itself.

Zen

When the moon is reflected in water, the water holds the whole moon without ever holding the moon. Grasping at the reflection breaks it.
