EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

Beneath every message the mind delivers, there is one that is always true and always now: I am with you. Not I was, not I will be, but I am. The presence at the source of you does not arrive tomorrow and does not belong to the past. It is here, in this moment, as the very awareness present in you now.

This is why you are never truly alone, even when the mind insists you are. The Being that says I am is always with you because it is what you are. It cannot leave, and it is never anywhere but here and now.

Live Haggai 1:13 today

  1. Sometime today when you are by yourself and reach for your phone out of habit, stop with your hand on it and feel that you are here, breathing, alive, before you unlock anything.
  2. When you are with someone and that small loneliness shows up anyway, the sense that nobody really gets it, let it be there without arguing with it, and stay present with the person in front of you instead of leaving for your thoughts.
  3. In a hard moment today, a tense meeting or bad news on the commute, put your attention in your hands or your feet for a few seconds. Something steady is already here, and it does not need the situation to improve.

Where in today did you feel alone, when something was quietly present the whole time?

Upanishads

The self you are looking for is not far off. It is the awareness already looking, closer to you than your own breathing.

Zen

The fish swims through the ocean asking where the water is. What holds you is what you are standing in.

Sufism · Rumi

You search the world over for a friend who has never once left your side. The seeking itself is what hides the nearness.
