Haggai 2:7 Meaning And I Will Shake All Nations

and I will shake all nations. The precious things of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory, says Yahweh of Armies.

What does Haggai 2:7 mean?

A profound disturbance runs through every part of a person so that the one thing longed for beneath all longings can arrive. The nations are the many divisions and factions of the self, the crowd of separate drives and identities a person is split into, and shaking them all is the tremor of awakening that unsettles each one at once.

A profound disturbance runs through every part of a person so that the one thing longed for beneath all longings can arrive. The nations are the many divisions and factions of the self, the crowd of separate drives and identities a person is split into, and shaking them all is the tremor of awakening that unsettles each one at once. Nothing settled in the lower nature is left undisturbed, because the deepest desire cannot come while the divided self stays comfortable.

The house is the body, the temple of flesh in which consciousness dwells, and its filling with glory is the inner radiance flooding the whole physical vessel once the shaking has cleared it. The desire of all nations is the single true aim hidden inside every scattered wanting, the Christ-light that every faction of the self is secretly reaching for. When it comes, the body becomes luminous from within.

Live Haggai 2:7 today

  1. Make a quick honest list of what you want today, then look under it. What is the one thing all of those are really reaching for?
  2. When a person says something that unsettles your picture of yourself, stay in the room with it. Let the shaking do its work instead of smoothing it over.
  3. In a hard stretch at work, when everything you had settled gets rearranged, resist the urge to grab back the old arrangement. Let the disruption clear some space and see what wants to come into it.

What in me is too comfortable to be filled?

The great doubt comes first and shakes the student apart. Only a self that has been thoroughly unsettled is open enough to be filled.

Sufism · Rumi

All your little longings are one longing wearing many masks. You are thirsty for the sea while chasing the thousand small cups.

Hinduism · Upanishads

Not for the sake of the many things are the many things loved, but for the sake of the Self. Every wanting is reaching past its object.
