ORTHODOX

Orthodox

Deciding in advance that grace will cover a sin changes the sin. Someone who has seen the truth and then chooses against it on purpose is not stumbling but using mercy as permission, and mercy handled that way stops reaching them.

No second offering waits in reserve. The one already made is enough for anything brought to it in sorrow, which is why the door of repentance never closes. What has no remedy is the settled plan to keep sinning while counting on forgiveness, because that plan is itself a refusal of the healing being held out.

Once you know the good and turn from it on purpose, you cannot plead ignorance anymore. The knowing changes everything. A man who stumbles in the dark is one thing. A man who sees the path and walks off it deliberately has made himself the author of his own corruption. No ritual washes that away, because the problem is not a stain but a decision.

What protects you is not another ceremony but the refusal to betray what you have understood. Knowledge carries weight. Learn the difference between right and wrong and you lose the shelter of innocence for good. From then on, every deliberate wrong is a choice made with open eyes, and you carry it.

Live Hebrews 10:26 today

  1. Check whether you have told yourself tonight is fine, I will deal with it tomorrow. Say the honest version instead, that you are planning to do it anyway, and let that land before you decide.
  2. Ask the person who knows you best to hold one specific thing with you, not to police you, just to know. Something said out loud to a friend is harder to schedule in advance.
  3. When the easy shortcut appears at work, the number rounded the kind way, the thing left out of the update, do not borrow against being forgiven later. Fix it while it is still small enough to fix.

Is there anything you have already decided to do while quietly counting on being forgiven for it?

The same truth in other traditions

Buddhism · Dhammapada

The person who excuses an action in advance has already consented to it, and intention is what gives an act its whole weight. The plan matters more than the slip.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Every time you put off a correction you are training yourself in the opposite direction, and a habit postponed is a habit being strengthened.

Judaism · Yoma 8:9

Someone who sins intending to repent afterward is not forgiven by the repenting, because the intention has turned mercy into a loophole.
