Hebrews 11:15 Meaning If Indeed They Had Been Thinking

If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.

What does Hebrews 11:15 mean?

Distance never ended anyone's homesickness; the option ends when you stop keeping the way back alive. An option stays alive as long as somebody keeps paying its upkeep.

Self-Help

Distance never ended anyone's homesickness; the option ends when you stop keeping the way back alive.

An option stays alive as long as somebody keeps paying its upkeep. Rehearse a country warmly enough and the road stays paved and the address stays current, permanently reachable by anyone unwilling to let it go cold.

Time was never the constraint here. What a person dwells on decides what remains possible, what remains possible gets chosen on the night the new road turns brutal, and those choices compound into where a life lands. Faith operates as a closed retreat rather than a warm feeling. Whoever keeps the old country vivid will live there again the first time the new one costs something.

Live Hebrews 11:15 today

  1. Unfollow, mute, or delete the one thing that keeps the old life vivid for you today. The ache does not fade on its own schedule, it fades when you stop feeding it.
  2. When someone brings up the thing you walked away from, say plainly that you are not going back and change the subject. You do not owe the memory a tour.
  3. On the night the new road gets hard and the old one looks warm, call someone instead of reopening the door. Hard nights are when kept options get used.

What are you still paying to keep possible?

The same truth in other traditions

Dhammapada

What you keep turning over in your mind is the direction your feet are already learning. Nothing stays possible without someone feeding it.

Stoicism · Epictetus

If you wish to go forward, stop warmly cataloguing what you left. The longing you keep polishing is the chain you keep complaining about.

Zen

You cannot cross the river while holding the far bank. Let the old shore go cold and the new one becomes solid ground.
