The name a person agrees to answer to decides ahead of time which choices will ever feel available.

Keeping a royal name would have preserved a way back, and a way back turns every later hardship into a question instead of a task. Severing it ends the internal debate before it starts, and a person who is no longer debating has all their strength available for the work.

Faith is what makes that cut survivable: certainty about a reward no eye has confirmed holds the state steady while everything visible argues the other way. Identity settles first, emotion follows identity, action follows emotion, which is how one refusal in adulthood produced decades of deeds nothing in his upbringing predicted. Anyone keeping a fallback name spends their best energy protecting it and never learns what they could have carried without it.

  1. Say out loud who you actually are now, not the title you keep on your profile as insurance. Then make one choice that only the real version would make.
  2. In conversation today, let someone see you without the credential you usually lead with. See what you still have when the label is not in the room.
  3. When the old role would have gotten you out of something hard, stay in it anyway. Backing out through a title is what keeps the title in charge of you.

What name are you still answering to, and what is it costing you to keep it?
