Hebrews 3:10 Meaning Therefore I Was Displeased with That Generation

Therefore I was displeased with that generation, and said, ‘They always err in their heart, but they didn’t know my ways.’

What does Hebrews 3:10 mean?

The erring runs in the center of consciousness, the seat behind the forehead where the light of the higher mind is meant to be received. A whole crowd of habitual thoughts keeps circling the outer world of the senses when the kingdom sits within, so the center that should turn inward and find God instead runs endlessly along the surface.

Esoteric

The erring runs in the center of consciousness, the seat behind the forehead where the light of the higher mind is meant to be received. A whole crowd of habitual thoughts keeps circling the outer world of the senses when the kingdom sits within, so the center that should turn inward and find God instead runs endlessly along the surface. God's ways are the ways of light itself, the photon streaming through the receptor in the head, and no amount of bodily religion, no belief carried on the outside, reaches them. What is called ignorance of God's ways is simply a consciousness that has never once been made still and turned back on itself, so the light that is always arriving is never known.

Heart: the center of consciousness behind the forehead, the seat where the higher mind receives its light, not the physical pump and not the emotions Generation: the crowd of habitual thoughts a person breeds and repeats, always facing outward toward the senses

Live Hebrews 3:10 today

  1. Once today, when your hand reaches for your phone out of habit, stop and let the reach go unanswered. Sit in the empty few seconds and let your attention turn back on itself.
  2. With someone you talk to often, ask a question you have never asked them instead of running the usual loop. Habit is the thing circling. One real question breaks it.
  3. When you are frazzled between tasks, do not reach for another screen. Close your eyes for thirty seconds, even in a hallway or a parking lot, and let the circling settle.

How much of today did I spend facing outward, and what was waiting the whole time if I had turned around?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 47

Without going out the door you can know the whole world. The one who keeps running outward sees much and understands nothing.

Zen · Bodhidharma

Direct pointing to the mind, outside of words and scriptures. Carry a thousand texts and miss the one turning inward that the whole thing is for.

Hinduism · Upanishads

The senses were set facing outward, so people chase the outside world. The wise one turns the gaze around and finds what was always arriving.
