Self-Help

The slowest path to a promise is the one a person insists on discovering alone.

Sluggishness has a cause upstream of willpower. Energy burned on inventing a route never reaches the walking, so a person can look idle while working hard at the wrong layer. Faith and perseverance are the transferable pieces, what someone chose to treat as settled before any evidence arrived, and how long they held it while nothing visible moved.

Run those two and the conviction holds the state steady through the lag, the steady state keeps the action going, and the gap between a decision and its inheritance stops functioning as proof that the promise failed. Refuse them, and a decade goes into learning what a season of studying the people who already arrived would have handed over.

Live Hebrews 6:12 today

  1. Instead of planning your own route today, find one person who already has what you want and read or watch how they got there. Copy their first step exactly.
  2. Ask someone one specific question you have been too proud to ask, by text if that is easier. Not for advice in general, for the thing they actually did.
  3. When something you decided months ago still shows no results, keep going for one more stretch without reopening the decision. The quiet stretch is part of the path, not evidence against it.

Where are you working hard at inventing something someone would gladly have shown you?

When you meet someone further along, study them closely and copy what works. When you meet someone off the path, check yourself for the same habit.

Stoicism · Seneca

The road to wisdom is long if you walk it by argument, short if you walk it by example. Keep someone in front of you.

Zen

The reason a teacher exists is that you can spend thirty years discovering alone what an afternoon of honest instruction would have given you.
