Inheritance inside a person passes only when the one who held it lets go. The old self that has drawn up its whole account of who it is cannot hand that estate forward while it still grips the pen.

The same verse, read by one tradition.

ESOTERIC
Inheritance inside a person passes only when the one who held it lets go. The old self that has drawn up its whole account of who it is cannot hand that estate forward while it still grips the pen. Nothing new is received until the maker of the old arrangement dies out of the seat, and the light that was locked in the former identity is released into the one who lives on.
The promise a person carries is sealed shut by the very self that guards it. That guarding self has to end for what it kept to become yours, the way a will opens the moment the writer is gone.
Testament: the sealed inheritance of higher life a person carries within, held closed until it can be received Testator: the old ego-self that authored one's identity and must dissolve before the inheritance passes
