Hebrews 9:27 Meaning Inasmuch as It Is Appointed for Men

Inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment,

What does Hebrews 9:27 mean?

Dying here is not the body stopping but the release of an old self-concept, the letting go of who a person has believed himself to be. It is appointed once because in every real change the same thing happens: the former state is dropped and a new one is put on.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

Dying here is not the body stopping but the release of an old self-concept, the letting go of who a person has believed himself to be. It is appointed once because in every real change the same thing happens: the former state is dropped and a new one is put on. A person dies to lack when he assumes sufficiency, dies to the failed self when he assumes the fulfilled one, and the old identity does not return once it is genuinely surrendered.

The judgment that follows is not a verdict handed down from outside. It is the state a person has assumed now producing its own world, showing itself in what comes to meet him. What he becomes within is what he then meets without. So the sequence is settled and gentle: an old concept is released, a new one is taken up and faithfully held, and that new state hardens into the life he sees. A person shapes his judgment by choosing what he dies into.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The death spoken of is the necessary dying of the old self of flesh within a person, the fixed law that the material identity must fall before the higher life can appear. The judgment that follows is the weighing that comes after that inner death, the moment when spirit is measured against flesh and the true worth of the consciousness is set. This is not an event across a great distance but the pattern written into every awakening: the lower nature comes to its end, and then the balance is taken of what the being truly is beneath it.

What waits for each person is this turning, the death of the material self and the reckoning that comes right after, when what was built of flesh is set against what belongs to the spirit and the real measure of the inner life is found.

Live Hebrews 9:27 today

  1. Decide today which version of yourself you're done being, and simply stop acting from him. One small thing, the way you answer a text, the way you walk into a room.
  2. Let someone meet the new you without explaining the change. No announcement, no backstory, just the different way you handle the thing you always used to handle badly.
  3. When something goes wrong today, instead of asking who's to blame, ask what state you were living in when it showed up. Then choose a different one for the rest of the afternoon.

If my life is simply showing me back what I've been, what am I ready to let die?

Endings and beginnings are one motion. What dies away makes the room in which the next thing lives.

Buddhism

What you are now grew out of what you held before, and what you hold now becomes what meets you later. Nobody hands down the sentence from outside.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Change is how the world keeps going, and nothing is harmed by becoming what comes next. Let the old shape fall and take up the new one willingly.
