Hosea 11:12 Meaning Ephraim Surrounds Me with Falsehood

Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit. Judah still strays from God, and is unfaithful to the Holy One.

What does Hosea 11:12 mean?

Deceit does not fail because a rule forbids it. It fails because a life built on lies surrounds itself with lies, until a man is boxed in by the very distortions he manufactured to feel safe.

Deceit does not fail because a rule forbids it. It fails because a life built on lies surrounds itself with lies, until a man is boxed in by the very distortions he manufactured to feel safe. He walls out the world he would need in order to find his way.

Faithfulness is quieter and far less dramatic. To rule with God is to align your words with what is, so the ground under your feet stays solid. One house drowns in its own fabrications while the other stands. What holds a person up over the years is that they stopped lying.

Live Hosea 11:12 today

  1. Reread the last message you sent that shaded the truth a little. Send a short correction, even if nobody would have caught it.
  2. Tell one person something real about how you are doing today instead of fine. Small honesty is how the walls come down.
  3. When a mistake at work tempts you to manage the story, give the plain account first and the explanation second. The clean version is cheaper to live with.

What are you maintaining that the truth would let you put down?
