Hosea 2:15 · World English Bible

Hosea 2:15 Meaning I Will Give Her Vineyards From There

I will give her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she will respond there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

What does Hosea 2:15 mean?

Renaming the worst ground in a life is not denial; it decides what that history is allowed to build. The meaning assigned to a place of trouble sets the state a person carries back into it, and the state decides whether they return as a defendant or as someone able to respond.

Renaming the worst ground in a life is not denial; it decides what that history is allowed to build.

The meaning assigned to a place of trouble sets the state a person carries back into it, and the state decides whether they return as a defendant or as someone able to respond. Held as evidence against her, ruin produces shame, shame withdraws, and withdrawal compounds into a life kept out of reach of what is offered.

The second name holds because God gives it, not the one who suffered there; a person cannot argue their way to hope from inside the same mind that filed the verdict. Refusing it costs every vineyard that would have grown on ground kept sealed.

Live Hosea 2:15 today

  1. Pick the year or the month you usually skip over when you tell your own story, and let yourself consider that something you have now actually grew there. You do not have to be glad about it to admit that.
  2. Tell one trusted person a plain sentence about a hard stretch, without the joke you normally use to get past it. Saying it out loud to someone takes it out of the file marked evidence against me.
  3. Go back today to one ordinary thing shame has kept you away from, the gym, the group, the email thread, the family call. Just show up once and let that be enough.

What ground in your life have you kept sealed, and what might have grown there?

Taoism · the Huainanzi story of the farmer's horse

A farmer's run of disasters keeps turning out to be the ground for what comes next, and his run of good fortune keeps turning into trouble. The event is fixed; what it ends up building is not.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

You are disturbed not by what happened but by the account you keep giving of it, and the account is yours to revise. What blocks the way is also the material the way is made from.

The wound is where the light gets in. The place you were broken open is also the opening, if you will let it be named that way.
