The most ordinary needs are what keep people tied to the arrangements that are ruining them.
Certainty bonds to whatever seems to deliver, with no interest in the character of the supplier. Believe provision comes from one source and the body settles there; settling hardens into dependence, dependence into appetite, and appetite renews the choice every morning until an entire life is organized around whichever vehicle pays.
The hunger underneath is embarrassingly ordinary. Wool and oil are household goods, which means what God is up against here is not wild desire but a settled belief about who fills the cupboard. Correct that belief and the appetite loses its object. Leave it, and growth and contribution never get a hearing, because a life spent being supplied has nothing to become.
