For the children of Israel shall live many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without sacred stone, and without ephod or idols.

What does Hosea 3:4 mean?

There comes a season when everything you leaned upon is taken from you. No ruler to obey, no ritual to perform, no image to bow before, no idol to clutch in the dark.

Ego v. Being

There comes a season when everything you leaned upon is taken from you. No ruler to obey, no ritual to perform, no image to bow before, no idol to clutch in the dark. The mind calls this loss, and it grieves.

Yet notice what remains when every outer form has fallen away. You remain. Awareness remains, the silent presence that was never a king or a statue or a sacred cloth. Stripped of all you leaned on, you are left with the one thing that needs no outer support in order to exist: your own awareness, the simple fact that you are here and know it.

Live Hosea 3:4 today

  1. Leave your phone in another room for an hour tonight. Feel what is still here when the stream of updates is gone.
  2. If someone asks what you do and you feel the urge to justify yourself, answer simply and let the silence after it be fine.
  3. When a plan collapses or the title changes or the project is cancelled, sit for a minute before the scramble. Feel that you are still here, awake, with nothing added.

If everything you lean on were set down for a day, what would remain?
