Hosea 5:6 · World English Bible

Hosea 5:6 Meaning They Will Go with Their Flocks

They will go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Yahweh; but they won’t find him. He has withdrawn himself from them.

What does Hosea 5:6 mean?

Bringing flocks and herds to a search is the ego trying to purchase what cannot be bought. The moment something is offered in exchange, the transaction has already replaced the surrender, and the one doing the bargaining remains intact, richer in piety and no closer.

Bringing flocks and herds to a search is the ego trying to purchase what cannot be bought. The moment something is offered in exchange, the transaction has already replaced the surrender, and the one doing the bargaining remains intact, richer in piety and no closer.

Withdrawal is not punishment. Whatever is sought as an object recedes exactly as fast as the seeking, because the divine is not somewhere ahead to be arrived at, and every step outward is a step away from the only place it could be found. Stop the caravan, let the wanting settle, and the searcher dissolves into what was never missing.

Live Hosea 5:6 today

  1. Today, try one stretch of quiet where you are not trying to get anywhere with it. No app, no count of minutes, no progress to report afterward. Just sitting, with the wanting allowed to settle on its own.
  2. In one conversation, stop offering things to be liked, the useful fact, the good story, the small favour. Say less and let the other person meet whoever is there without the merchandise.
  3. Under pressure, when you catch yourself bargaining with life, if I just get through this week, then I will be okay, hear the sentence for what it is. The okay was never on the other side of the week.

What have you been offering in exchange for something that was never for sale?
