Hosea 7:14 · World English Bible

Hosea 7:14 Meaning They Haven’t Cried to Me

They haven’t cried to me with their heart, but they howl on their beds. They assemble themselves for grain and new wine. They turn away from me.

What does Hosea 7:14 mean?

The howling on the bed is real pain, but it rises only from the surface of a person, from the thinking mind that wants its situation changed. It never reaches the still depth where a cry becomes prayer.

Ego v. Being

The howling on the bed is real pain, but it rises only from the surface of a person, from the thinking mind that wants its situation changed. It never reaches the still depth where a cry becomes prayer. So the noise is loud and the heart stays shut.

What they gather for tells the whole story. Grain and wine, more of the outer things, another arrangement of form to fill the ache. The ache was never about grain. It was the pull of presence itself, mistaken for hunger. When a person keeps reaching outward for what only inner stillness can give, the reaching hardens into a quiet war with the source of peace. Their sorrow was honest. It simply knocked on the wrong door.

When you ache, which door do you knock on first?
