Isaiah 14:7 · World English Bible
The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet. They break out in song.
When the force that dominates and disturbs finally falls away, a deep stillness returns to everything. The earth grows quiet not because something new was added, but because the restless striving that covered its peace has ended.

EGO & BEING
When the force that dominates and disturbs finally falls away, a deep stillness returns to everything. The earth grows quiet not because something new was added, but because the restless striving that covered its peace has ended.
This quiet is not emptiness. Beneath the noise of the mind there has always been a living stillness, and when that stillness is felt, joy rises on its own. People break forth into singing because peace is the natural state of life, and it shows itself the moment the disturbance stops.

BUDDHISM
Nirodha: Cessation The stopping of what caused the harm. A tyrant's grasping has just ended, and the ground he trampled goes still the moment the pressure lifts off it. Rest here is nothing added and nothing achieved; it is the plain quiet that arrives on its own once the source of the trouble simply ceases. The whole earth grows calm because the thing disturbing it is finally gone, and calm was underneath the whole time.
Passaddhi: Tranquility The settling of body and mind after long strain. The whole earth, held tense for years under one man's reach, finally loosens the way a clenched fist opens when you stop making it grip. This calm is the natural weather of anything no longer braced against a threat, the shoulders coming down once the danger passes. Quiet is what a body does by itself the instant it is allowed to stop bracing.
Santi: Peace The deep peace that lies underneath all the noise. With the oppressor gone, the earth does not have to build peace or import it from somewhere; it rests back into the stillness that was always there beneath his uproar. Silence turns out to be the world's own resting state, covered over for a while but never destroyed. Take away what was shouting, and the underlying quiet is simply heard again.
Pīti: Rapture, uplift A gladness that wells up on its own and spills over. Freed ground breaks into singing, the way relief bursts out of anyone who has just set down a weight they carried far too long. Joy needs no coaxing and no reason argued for it once the pressure is off; it rises like a cork held underwater and then let go. The singing is that upward rush made audible across a whole released land.
Vimutti: Release, freedom The mind slipping loose from what bound it. A whole earth held under one grip is suddenly let go, unchained the way a lifted boot frees whatever it was crushing. This freedom is felt as the first easy breath, the chest filling now that nothing sits on it. The singing and the stillness are the two sounds of a captive released.
Ego v. Being lens
What in me would go quiet today if I simply stopped stirring it?
Return to stillness and you return to the root of things. Everything rushes and spends itself, but what is quiet underneath was never disturbed.
Stillness is not something you manufacture by effort. Sit down, let the stirring settle, and the clear water that was always there shows itself.
People travel far looking for quiet places, when the quiet was available inside them the whole time. Step back from the agitation and it is simply there.
