Isaiah 19:8 Meaning The Fishermen Will Lament

The fishermen will lament, and all those who fish in the Nile will mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters will languish.

What does Isaiah 19:8 mean?

The work of drawing meaning up out of the moving mind fails when the inner waters dry. Fishers are the part that reaches into the flowing thought to catch the living idea, the flash of understanding that swims below the surface.

Esoteric

The work of drawing meaning up out of the moving mind fails when the inner waters dry. Fishers are the part that reaches into the flowing thought to catch the living idea, the flash of understanding that swims below the surface. When the Nile within a person shrinks, when the current of spirit stops feeding the lower waters, nothing rises to the hook, and the seeker who once pulled wisdom from the depths sits empty by an idle stream.

The grief here is the grief of a body cut off from its own source, no longer able to lift what nourishes it from the deep places where thought becomes vision.

Fishers: the faculty in a person that reaches down into flowing thought to draw up the living idea Brooks: the smaller channels of the mind where individual thoughts run and can be worked Nets spread upon the waters: the wide effort of the mind to gather many meanings at once from the moving surface of consciousness

Live Isaiah 19:8 today

  1. When you sit down to think something through and nothing comes, do not reach for your phone to fill the gap. Stay with the blank for two minutes, because the blank is part of the work.
  2. If someone asks you a real question today and you do not have the answer, say "I do not know yet" instead of producing something smooth. The honest empty hand is worth more than a clever one.
  3. On a day when you are running dry and the demands keep coming, cut one thing instead of pushing harder. Nothing comes up from a stream you have drained.

What have I been trying to pull out of myself that I first need to let refill?

Muddy water clears on its own if you let it stand. The one who keeps stirring it to see the bottom guarantees he never will.

Zen

When there is nothing to say, the honest answer is silence, not a borrowed answer. A dry season faced plainly teaches more than forced speech.
