MANIFESTATION
Reason is refusing here what the inner eye has already seen. A person perceives something of the finished drama within, and then his own logic answers, "See not," and asks for smooth things instead of the plain report. Reason talks him out of the vision, calls it deceit, and prefers the comfortable account that changes nothing. Pride in powerful men works the same way, closing them to the seer with the unwelcome word.
The seers and prophets are the deeper sight in a person, reporting what is there. Prayer is feeling the wish fulfilled and living from that assumption, leaning on what was seen over what reason permits. The smooth things are the safe denials. They keep a person where he already is. Letting reason overrule the vision holds a person in the world he already knows. What you saw is more reliable than the argument against it.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY
Consider what a people asks for when it has grown tired of reality. It tells the ones who can see to stop seeing, and it begs those who speak the truth to lie sweetly instead. Flattery feels like mercy. A comfortable falsehood soothes the moment and rots the foundation.
A man does this to himself long before a nation does it. He silences the quiet voice that names his errors, because correction stings and delusion feels warm. Yet the world he refuses to look at does not vanish. It waits, and it collects its debt. Whoever demands smooth words pays for them with a harder morning.

SELF-HELP
People pay for the forecast that protects their plans and then wonder why nothing about their life changes.
Once a person links pain to being corrected, they begin managing their inputs rather than their conduct, and the management works: the uncomfortable word gets filtered out, the state stays smooth, and the behavior that needed changing keeps running untouched.
Demanding smooth things from the seers is the last defense of a life someone has already decided to keep. The linkage does exactly what it was built for, moving them away from the accurate word and toward the flattering one, and the flattering one costs nothing until what was ignored arrives on its own schedule. Silencing the true word does not cancel the outcome it named; it only burns the years a person had to change it.
Manifestation lens
What have I already seen clearly, and talked myself out of?
The frog in the well argues down any report of the sea, because the well is all his reasoning has ever measured. His logic is sound and his world is small.
The student who already knows what the answer should be cannot hear the teacher. A full cup takes nothing in, however good the tea.
The arguing mind is a clever lawyer for the life you already have. Rumi says sell that cleverness and buy bewilderment, because what the heart glimpsed is truer than the case against it.
