Ego v. Being

The home you truly long for is not a house or a circumstance secure enough to keep fear away. No outer arrangement has ever stilled the restlessness of a mind that lives in past and future. The dwelling that is sure cannot be found in the world of form.

It is found within, in the quiet resting place of the present moment. When your attention comes home to the now and the thinking mind grows still, you feel a peace no event can disturb, because it does not depend on events. To dwell there is to return to presence until stillness becomes the place you live from.

Live Isaiah 32:18 today

  1. Tonight, instead of scrolling until you are tired enough to sleep, sit on the edge of the bed for two minutes and feel the weight of your body. That is the only home you have to reach.
  2. At dinner, let the phone stay in another room and be fully with whoever is at the table. You are giving them your presence, which is the one place they can rest in you.
  3. In traffic or a long line, instead of reaching for the phone, feel your feet and your breath for a few seconds. The waiting becomes a room you can sit in rather than one you are stuck in.

What do you keep hoping will finally arrive before you let yourself feel at home?
