Isaiah 33:20 · World English Bible

Isaiah 33:20 Meaning Look at Zion

Look at Zion, the city of our appointed festivals. Your eyes will see Jerusalem, a quiet habitation, a tent that won’t be removed. Its stakes will never be plucked up, nor will any of its cords be broken.

What does Isaiah 33:20 mean?

Everything made of form eventually comes apart. Bodies age, structures crumble, all that is built in time is taken down again by time.

Ego v. Being

Everything made of form eventually comes apart. Bodies age, structures crumble, all that is built in time is taken down again by time. And yet there is a dwelling place within you that no force can dismantle, a quiet habitation, still and unshaken beneath the movement of your thoughts and circumstances.

This is your own awareness, the silent presence in which your whole life appears. Its stakes are never pulled up, its cords never broken, because it does not belong to the world of things that begin and end. When you rest your attention there, in the stillness that is always already present, you find the one part of you that nothing outside can take away.

Live Isaiah 33:20 today

  1. Sit quietly for three minutes and let thoughts come and go without chasing them. Pay attention to the one watching, which stays while they move.
  2. When a friend is losing something, a job, a relationship, do not rush to fix it. Stay with them steadily, which tells them something in them is still standing.
  3. When plans fall apart at work, let the first wave pass before you react. The plan was always made of paper, and you are not.

What in you has stayed the same through every version of your life so far?
