Isaiah 35:8 · World English Bible

Isaiah 35:8 Meaning A Highway Will Be There

A highway will be there, a road, and it will be called “The Holy Way”. The unclean shall not pass over it, but it will be for those who walk in the Way. Wicked fools shall not go there.

What does Isaiah 35:8 mean?

The highway is the raised inner road, the channel up the spine along which consciousness travels back to its source. It is called holy because it is whole, the way made single and clean, and the unclean cannot pass because the mixed and animal pulls of the flesh have no traction on it; only the purified current rises there.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The highway is the raised inner road, the channel up the spine along which consciousness travels back to its source. It is called holy because it is whole, the way made single and clean, and the unclean cannot pass because the mixed and animal pulls of the flesh have no traction on it; only the purified current rises there. The path is so direct that even the simple, the ones without learning or cleverness, cannot lose their way on it.

What happens in a person is that a plain, unmistakable route opens upward. Once the energy is clean it climbs of itself, and no lack of understanding can send it wrong, because the road runs one way only.

The highway: the raised inner road, the channel up the spine by which purified consciousness travels back to its source. The unclean: the mixed, animal pulls of the flesh that can gain no foothold on the risen way.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

This holy road is never a place on a map. It is what happens inside a person who turns toward the parts of himself he would rather not see and claims them as his own. That owning is what "clean" really means: not scrubbing the darkness away, but carrying it consciously.

The fool cannot walk there. He refuses to look inward and insists his darkness belongs to other people. The road is that inner work and nothing else, so a man who will not do the work has not been turned away. He has simply never set foot on it.

Live Isaiah 35:8 today

  1. Stop researching the thing you already know how to start. Delete the saved articles, put on your shoes, do the first plain step for fifteen minutes today.
  2. When someone explains something to you today, a coworker, your kid, a friend in a group chat, let yourself be the one who does not already know. Say "I don't understand yet, say it again."
  3. Under pressure the mind reaches for the clever shortcut, the half-true answer in the meeting, the message you can defend later. Pick the plain honest one instead, even though it costs more right now. It is the only road that stays walkable.

Where are you using cleverness to avoid the simple road in front of you?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen · Shunryu Suzuki

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, in the expert's mind there are few. The one who stops being clever is the one who can still walk the road.

Tao Te Ching 48

The pursuit of learning piles things up, the pursuit of the Way takes them away. Being simple is not a handicap on this path, it is the qualification.

Hinduism · Ramana Maharshi

Ramana sent the learned away with the same single instruction he gave the illiterate: ask who you are. The route is so plain that education gives no advantage on it.
