Isaiah 37:28 · World English Bible

Isaiah 37:28 Meaning But I Know Your Sitting Down

But I know your sitting down, your going out, your coming in, and your raging against me.

What does Isaiah 37:28 mean?

There is an awareness in you that misses nothing. It knows where you dwell, the moment you rise into action and the moment you return to stillness, and it knows the rage that rises in you against life as it is.

Ego v. Being

There is an awareness in you that misses nothing. It knows where you dwell, the moment you rise into action and the moment you return to stillness, and it knows the rage that rises in you against life as it is. The proud king imagines his movements are hidden, but nothing is hidden from the presence that watches every thought arrive and pass.

This is not a threat. It is simply that consciousness is already awake behind your restlessness, aware of your going out and your coming in. When you feel yourself seen this completely, the rage loses its fuel, because rage lives on the belief that you are separate and unwatched, and here you are known through and through.

Live Isaiah 37:28 today

  1. When your phone lights up and you feel that small kick of irritation, stay still for one breath and watch the irritation instead of acting on it. You are the one watching, not the heat.
  2. In a conversation where someone is getting under your skin, quietly let yourself be seen rather than defending your side. Say the true thing simply, without the armor.
  3. Stuck in traffic or in a meeting that is going nowhere, catch the exact moment your mood turns. Naming it to yourself, even silently, takes most of the fire out of it.

What in you keeps arguing with the way today actually is?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 16

All things rise and return, and the one who stays rooted in that stillness sees clearly. Watching the movement from a quiet center is how a person stops being thrown around by it.

Zen

The mind is like a mirror. It does not chase what appears or push it away, it simply reflects whatever comes and lets it go.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He reminded himself that anger comes from arguing with how things are. Step back far enough to see the whole and the heat drains out of the complaint.
