Isaiah 43:1 · World English Bible

Isaiah 43:1 Meaning But Now Yahweh Who Created You

But now Yahweh who created you, Jacob, and he who formed you, Israel, says: “Don’t be afraid, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine.

What does Isaiah 43:1 mean?

The one who formed you says: do not be afraid. Fear belongs to the ego, to the fragile sense of self that believes it is separate and could at any moment be lost.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The one who formed you says: do not be afraid. Fear belongs to the ego, to the fragile sense of self that believes it is separate and could at any moment be lost. But there is in you something that was never born and can never be taken from you, the formless awareness that is your true nature.

To be called by name is to be recognized in that essence, beneath the story of who you think you are. You belong to the source of life itself. When you know this directly, fear loosens its grip, because you finally see that what you most deeply are cannot be harmed.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The one who created you and now speaks is your own I AM, the awareness of being that formed every condition you have ever worn. Jacob is you before you know this, the supplanter still climbing over circumstance. Israel is the same person renamed, and the name means to rule as God, so the change is one of consciousness alone: the man who fears his facts becomes the man who commands his states.

"Fear not" follows because dread is only belief in the evidence of the senses. Redemption buys you back from that bondage. Called by your name means summoned by the awareness "I am," the sound every desire answers to. "Thou art mine" is the assumption owning its object. What a person claims as himself, and feels as himself, is already his.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

To be called by name is to be addressed as a particular person rather than a specimen, singled out from the anonymous mass. Fear thins when someone knows exactly who you are and claims you anyway. The One who formed a person also holds him, and that grip is what quiets the dread of being lost in an indifferent world.

Belonging is not sentiment here; it is the ground a life stands on. A man told he is spoken for, redeemed, wanted, carries himself differently than one who suspects he is no one. You are not an accident adrift. You were made, named, and claimed, and knowing that steadies a person against the fear that he does not matter.

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

Fear loosens its grip on a person the moment they hear from the one who shaped them that they belong. The maker who formed this life does not talk to a stranger. He speaks to someone He knows by name, and a name is the center of the self-image, the picture a person carries of who they are underneath every worry.

When that picture settles into belonging, the alarm inside begins to quiet. A person redeemed is one bought back from the scrap heap of old failures. Owned, named, formed on purpose. They stop bracing against the world, and the calm comes from knowing whose they are.

Live Isaiah 43:1 today

  1. When your mind starts listing everything you are afraid of losing, your job, your looks, your standing, sit with the fact that you were here before any of it. Something in you is not on that list.
  2. Use someone's actual name today and mean it, and look at them while you say it. Being seen as a person, not a role, is a small thing you can hand anybody.
  3. After criticism, in an email or a meeting or from family, feel the sting and then ask quietly what in you was actually harmed. Usually it is the image, not you.

If nothing could be taken from me, what would I stop protecting?

Weapons cannot cut it, fire cannot burn it, water cannot wet it. What you most deeply are was never in danger.

Buddhism

The self we defend so fiercely is a bundle of passing things we have given a name. Hold it loosely and the fear of losing it loosens too.
