Isaiah 43:5 · World English Bible

Isaiah 43:5 Meaning Don’t Be Afraid

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. I will bring your offspring from the east, and gather you from the west.

What does Isaiah 43:5 mean?

Fear is the mind running ahead into a future that does not exist, abandoning the only place where life is found, which is here. Yet beneath the running is a presence that never leaves, an I am that is always with you, quieter than thought and closer than your breath.

Ego v. Being

Fear is the mind running ahead into a future that does not exist, abandoning the only place where life is found, which is here. Yet beneath the running is a presence that never leaves, an I am that is always with you, quieter than thought and closer than your breath.

The parts of you feel scattered, thrown east by memory and west by longing, pulled apart across time. When you return to this presence you are gathered into one place and one moment, which is now. Fear ends there, because fear can only live in an imagined future, and the present holds no future for it to inhabit.

Live Isaiah 43:5 today

  1. When your mind starts rehearsing tomorrow, put both feet flat on the floor and feel your own breathing for three slow rounds. The future you were arguing with is not in the room.
  2. Next time someone close to you is worried out loud, stay with them instead of fixing it. Let your calm presence be the answer rather than a plan.
  3. In a tense meeting or a traffic jam, stop narrating what might go wrong and come back to what is actually in front of you: the light, the voices, the air. Act from there, not from the forecast.

What part of me is still living in a day that has not arrived?

Tao Te Ching

The sage does not run ahead or lag behind, but stays with what is happening, and so has nothing to lose.

Buddhism

Do not dwell in what is gone or lean forward into what has not come. Live in the one moment that is actually here, and the mind stops trembling.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Nothing can harm you in this present instant, because suffering is almost always memory or forecast. Keep your attention inside the hour you are in.
