Isaiah 45:1 · World English Bible

Isaiah 45:1 Meaning Yahweh Says to His Anointed

Yahweh says to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have held, to subdue nations before him, and strip kings of their armor; to open the doors before him, and the gates shall not be shut:

What does Isaiah 45:1 mean?

The awakening ruling power in a person is held by its own strong hand and sent to bring the crowding multitudes of thought under order, so the mob of impulses that once ran a person is subdued and made to serve. The loosening of the loins of kings drains the grip of the proud governing appetites, and the 2-leaved gate at the center of the head swings open, the double door of the higher faculty through which the inner light passes.

Esoteric

The awakening ruling power in a person is held by its own strong hand and sent to bring the crowding multitudes of thought under order, so the mob of impulses that once ran a person is subdued and made to serve. The loosening of the loins of kings drains the grip of the proud governing appetites, and the 2-leaved gate at the center of the head swings open, the double door of the higher faculty through which the inner light passes. Once that gate is opened it does not close again: the passage between the ordinary self and the deeper awareness, once forced through, stays open, and consciousness moves freely between them.

Cyrus: the anointed ruling power in a person, upheld by its own strength to master the inner multitudes. Nations: the crowding multitudes of thoughts and impulses that swarm within a person. 2 leaved gates: the double door of the higher center in the head through which the inner light passes.

Live Isaiah 45:1 today

  1. Pick the small compulsion you lose to most reliably, the first scroll, the snack, the refresh, and today let the urge come and go once without obeying it. One clean pass teaches the body something an argument cannot.
  2. Next time a group chat pulls you into fast outrage, hold off the reply for ten minutes. You will still be able to answer, but you get to choose from somewhere steadier.
  3. When pressure hits and the old panic reaction starts, pause long enough to feel that you are the one deciding. Even one second of real choosing leaves a door open that stays open.

What in me has been running the show simply because I never once told it no?

Buddhism · Dhammapada

Better than conquering a thousand enemies in battle is conquering yourself once, because that is the only victory nobody can take back from you.

Stoicism · Epictetus

He taught that the appetites are not masters but claimants, and once you have seen clearly that they only rule by your consent, the door they were guarding is simply open.

Zen

Teachers speak of a gateless gate: once you have actually passed through, you find there was no door to swing shut behind you, only a seeing that cannot be unseen.
