Isaiah 6:13 · World English Bible

Isaiah 6:13 Meaning If There Is a Tenth Left

If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed, as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stump remains when they are cut down; so the holy seed is its stock.

What does Isaiah 6:13 mean?

When the outer life is stripped and burned down to almost nothing, a remnant survives in the body, and that surviving core is the imperishable spark that no wasting away can consume. The tree that loses every leaf and yet holds its living substance in the trunk and root is the human form stripped of its seasonal show, keeping the sap of spirit hidden inside the standing wood.

The holy seed is that inner substance, the seminal essence that carries the whole tree folded inside itself. When everything else falls away, what remains is the small hidden germ that can grow the whole life again, because the true substance of a person was never in the leaves but always in the seed.

Live Isaiah 6:13 today

  1. Think of one thing you have lost this year, a role, a plan, a relationship, a version of yourself, and ask quietly what in you is still standing. Spend a minute with that, not with the loss.
  2. Ask someone older than you what they lost and what stayed. Their answer will tell you more about what is durable than any article you could read.
  3. When a day strips you bare, the project collapses, the news lands badly, the plan falls through, do one small ordinary thing well: wash the dish, walk the block, send the kind message. The seed is still in there, and that is how it grows back.

When everything outward is stripped away, what in me is still unmistakably alive?

All things flourish and then return to their root. Going back to that still root is the one thing that survives every season.

Bhagavad Gita 2

What is truly you was never born and cannot be destroyed. Bodies and circumstances wear out like clothes; the one wearing them does not.

Strip away reputation, possessions, even the body, and something small and sovereign remains. That remainder is the only thing that was ever really yours.
