Isaiah 61:10 · World English Bible

Isaiah 61:10 Meaning I Will Greatly Rejoice in Yahweh

I will greatly rejoice in Yahweh! My soul will be joyful in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation. He has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

What does Isaiah 61:10 mean?

The joy here is careful about its source. The heart is tempted to admire its own fine robe, as if the beauty grew from within, and that small vanity is the fault love must undo.

SUFISM

Sufism

The joy here is careful about its source. The heart is tempted to admire its own fine robe, as if the beauty grew from within, and that small vanity is the fault love must undo. The cure is to keep rejoicing in the giver rather than the gift, the way a bride's gladness is about the one she is dressed to meet.

God is present as the one who did the clothing. The garments of rescue were placed on a soul that had nothing to wear, so every jewel points back to the hand that adorned her.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

Rejoicing is the natural climate of one who has stopped defending himself. The sorrowful saint is a contradiction, since sorrow needs a center that compares and counts what it lacks.

Salvation arrives as clothing. Virtue practiced by effort stays a costume and itches by evening, while what comes when the false center is absent cannot be cultivated, only allowed, and it changes an ordinary day the way a wedding changes a man who has waited his whole life for it. Nothing was earned; something was received, and the whole being says yes.

  1. Next time you catch yourself scrolling back through a compliment or a win, let the gladness stay but move it one step over. Thank whoever or whatever actually made it possible, including the people who are not in the story you tell about it.
  2. When someone praises you in a meeting or a group chat, resist the urge to either shrink it or stretch it. Say thank you, then name one person who made that outcome possible, out loud, where the room can hear it.
  3. When you feel the pull to compare your life to someone else's feed, the fix is not to look away, it is to remember you did not build what you are standing on. Close the app and say one specific thing you were handed.

When something good about your life gets admired, are you glad about the gift or about yourself?

Bhagavad Gita 2

Krishna tells Arjuna to act without clutching the fruit of the action as his own. The work can be done well and the credit can still be let go.

Tao Te Ching 2

The sage does the work and does not lay claim to it, and because nothing is claimed, nothing is lost. The gladness stays clean when ownership is not added to it.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Epictetus said that if you are proud of what is not your own, you are like a horse boasting I am beautiful about a fine mane it did not grow. Enjoy the good thing, just do not mistake yourself for its source.
