A frightened crowd's vocabulary will install their state in you unless you refuse to repeat their words.

A word repeated often enough by the people around a person becomes a belief before anyone checks whether the thing is true. Calling a plot behind every event is full certainty about something nobody has confirmed, which makes it the same instrument that produces trust when it is aimed the other way. The label sets the state, the state keeps the body braced, and a braced body makes hurried defensive choices that compound into a life organized around ambush.

Their fear can be declined because it was handed around and picked up, not weather falling equally on everyone. Keep saying what the anxious people say and a person inherits their state, and with it every decision that state was going to make anyway.

Live Isaiah 8:12 today

  1. Watch your own phrasing in your head today. When you catch the dramatic version, a disaster, a betrayal, say the plain version instead and keep going.
  2. When the group chat spirals into worst case talk, do not add to it and do not argue. Say the one calm true thing you know, or say nothing.
  3. Before you forward the alarming article or screenshot, put it down for an hour. If it still matters then, send it with your own steady words on top.

Whose words have I been repeating until they became what I believe?
