MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The children given here are not offspring of the body. They are inner signs of a spiritual rebirth, states born within a person as he awakens. One child is one's own birth from above, the moment a man is born anew out of the merely human. The other is the discovery of one's own divine fatherhood, known when his own son within calls him father and he sees that the creative power is his.

These are called signs and wonders because they mark the actual unfolding of God waking inside an ordinary life. Mount Zion, where the Lord dwells, is that same awakened state raised up in you. The wonder is not shown to a nation outside. It happens within a single person, who becomes the sign by living out the rebirth he has undergone.

  1. Think of one way you are plainly different from who you were a year ago, something nobody handed you. Sit with it for a minute without explaining it away as luck.
  2. Instead of telling someone how they should change, let them see the change in you over a long dinner, in how you handle the thing that used to set you off. That is the only proof anyone trusts.
  3. When the pressure is on and your old reflex is right there waiting, the new one is also available. Use it, and let that moment be the evidence.

What in my life has quietly become proof of something?

The same truth in other traditions

Zen · Hakuin

Passing through the great death, a person comes back to the same ordinary life and finds it entirely new. Nothing outward has moved and everything is different.

Hinduism · Dvija

The tradition calls the awakened one twice born, the first birth from parents and the second from realization. The second one is the birth that actually makes a person who they are.

Sufism · Rumi

You were a seed, then a plant, then a creature with a heart, and each stage was a death to what came before. The one who has seen this stops fearing the next birth.
