Belief is unfinished until the body has acted on it, and an unfinished belief cannot carry weight.

Conviction runs as a loop. A person acts on what they claim, the act returns evidence, the evidence hardens into certainty, and the certainty makes the next act cost less. Break the loop at the first link and an opinion about God is all that remains.

Works complete faith instead of advertising it. A man on that mountain finished in himself what he had until then only stated, and the trust he carried down weighed more than the trust he carried up. Skipping the act leaves a person sincere and untested, holding a belief they cannot stand on when the ground moves.

Live James 2:22 today

  1. Take the thing you say you trust and let one real decision rest on it this week, a yes you give, a no you hold, money you move. Belief with nothing riding on it never firms up.
  2. Keep a small promise to one person today even though no one would blame you for breaking it. The weather is bad, you're tired, they'd understand. Go anyway, and feel how different you are when you come back.
  3. When the ground moves, bad news at work, the call you dreaded, the bill you weren't expecting, do the next right thing in the first ten minutes instead of looking for reassurance. The act gives you evidence. The reassurance gives you a feeling that leaves.

What do you say you believe that your life has never actually had to test?

Bhagavad Gita 3

Knowing and doing are not two paths. Act on what you hold true, and the acting is what makes it true in you.

Zen · Dogen

Practice and realization are not separate. You do not finish understanding and then begin, the doing is the understanding arriving.

Stoicism · Seneca

Long is the road by precept and short by example. Trust that has been tested weighs more than trust that has only been stated.
