James 2:26 · World English Bible
For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.
A body with no breath in it is only a form that cannot move, and belief with nothing enacted is the same lifeless shape. The works meant here are not errands in the outer world but a single inner act, the act of imagining, of living the scene of the wish already granted.

MANIFESTATION
A body with no breath in it is only a form that cannot move, and belief with nothing enacted is the same lifeless shape. The works meant here are not errands in the outer world but a single inner act, the act of imagining, of living the scene of the wish already granted. Faith is loyalty to a reality the senses still deny, held to until it appears.
So a person shows what he believes not by saying it but by behaving, in imagination, as one who already has what he desires. Belief that never acts lies dead. The moment he assumes the feeling of the thing fulfilled and moves within it as though it were so, his faith is breathing. What is alive within him begins to take form around him.

PSYCHOANALYSIS
Belief that never shows up in action is like a body with no breath in it. The form is there, the words are there, but nothing is alive. What we hold in the mind and what we do with our hands are meant to be one motion, and when they split apart, the belief quietly dies.
The inner life needs a body to move through. A conviction that stays private and produces nothing was never fully real to begin with; it was a thought about faith rather than faith itself. What proves a belief is true, even to the person holding it, is that it changes what he does, because only then has it actually taken hold of the whole person and not just his opinions.

SUFISM
Faith is what settles in the heart and shows in your deeds: Hasan al-Basri's measure Hasan al-Basri, one of the earliest teachers the Sufis look back to, measured belief by what it changed. Someone can hold an opinion about God the way they hold an opinion about the weather, and their week looks exactly the same afterward. When belief has landed in a person, it shows up in their money, their patience, and how they treat people who annoy them.
Knowledge without action is madness: what you know has to move you al-Ghazali repeated that warning and then acted on it, leaving a famous teaching post because his life had not followed his learning. A person can describe exactly what kindness requires, argue about it well, and go years without doing it once. Knowledge held that way stops being useful and turns into decoration.
None of you believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself: a saying of the Prophet The Prophet put the test of belief right here, in how a person treats the one beside them. Plenty of us are willing to pray for a hungry neighbor but not to buy them dinner. Wishing someone well costs nothing until their need reaches your wallet, and that is where a person finds out what they believe.
Deeds are standing forms and their spirit is the sincerity inside them: Ibn Ata Allah Ibn Ata Allah, an Egyptian teacher, put this among his short sayings, and the warning runs the other direction. Charity given to be seen, help offered so someone owes you, prayers said out of habit: all of it happens, and none of it is alive. The deed goes hollow when the person doing it was aiming at something other than God.
Iḥsān: doing things beautifully, as if you can see God The Prophet named this step, worshipping God as though you see him. When a person is sure nobody is watching, the work goes halfway: the dishes get a rinse, the apology gets mumbled. Acting as if God stands right there closes the distance between what someone believes and what their hands are doing.
Manifestation lens
What have I believed for months and never once acted out?
Cook Ting's skill lives in his hands, not in anything he could say about carving. What a person knows is only what he can do.
Stop debating what a good person is like. Be one, today, in the next thing you do.
Study matters because it leads to doing. Learning that never becomes action has no life in it.
