James 3:13 Meaning Who Is Wise and Understanding Among You

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by his good conduct that his deeds are done in gentleness of wisdom.

What does James 3:13 mean?

True wisdom has nothing to prove. The mind loves to display its knowledge, to argue and appear clever, but this is not wisdom at all, only the ego strengthening itself through ideas.

Ego v. Being

True wisdom has nothing to prove. The mind loves to display its knowledge, to argue and appear clever, but this is not wisdom at all, only the ego strengthening itself through ideas. Real wisdom is far quieter than that.

It shows itself in how you live, in the meekness of your actions rather than the volume of your words. When you act from presence, without the constant need to defend or impress, your conduct itself becomes the teaching, and people feel the stillness in you. That is why the wise are known not by what they claim to know, but by the peaceful quality of everything they do.

Live James 3:13 today

  1. Today, learn something useful and tell no one you learned it. Just use it.
  2. In your next meeting, let one of your good points go unsaid because someone else nearly said it, and watch the conversation go fine without you.
  3. When someone is clearly wrong in a group chat, decide whether being right there will help anyone, and if it will not, stay out of it.

Would someone who only watched how you act today guess what you believe?

True words are not fancy and fancy words are not true. The one who knows does not argue, and the one who argues does not know.
