Ego v. Being

To submit is not to grovel before some distant power. It is to yield to the deeper current of life rather than to the frightened demands of the ego. The moment you surrender the mind's constant resistance to what is, a peace becomes available that no situation can give you.

And what is the devil here but the voice in the head that thrives on conflict, the compulsive thinking that feeds on your reaction? Resist it not by fighting, which only strengthens it, but by seeing it, by no longer identifying with it. When you become the awareness behind the voice instead of its captive, it loses all its power over you, and it flees.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The lower drives of a person, the pull toward flesh and its appetites, hold no power once the higher awareness turns its full attention against them. What the writers call the devil is the diabolos, the divider, the scattering force that splits a mind into 100 competing wants and keeps it fixed on the body's cravings. It does not conquer, it deceives, and the moment the settled center of a person refuses to feed it, the whole show collapses on its own. Submission here is not defeat before an outside master but the aligning of the small self with the God-consciousness already seated within, the point from which all divided energy loses its grip and drains away.

What flees was never solid to begin with. The resistance asked for is steady turning inward, not struggle, and the flight of the accuser is simply the fading of thoughts that were only ever borrowing their strength from the attention given them.

Live James 4:7 today

  1. When traffic stops or the train sits still, drop the argument you are having with it. Let your hands open on the wheel and feel yourself sitting there, going nowhere, alive.
  2. In a conversation that is heating up, hear the voice in your head building its case and do not take its side. Just hearing it is enough to take the fight out of your voice.
  3. When the day goes sideways and the angry commentary starts running, say to yourself, there it goes again, and keep walking. You are the one listening to it, not the one speaking.

What are you fighting today that would lose its grip the moment you simply saw it?

Thoughts are like clouds crossing the sky of awareness. You do not fight a cloud, you simply stop mistaking yourself for it, and it passes on its own.
