Jeremiah 1:13 Meaning Yahweh’s Word Came to Me the Second

Yahweh’s word came to me the second time, saying, “What do you see?” I said, “I see a boiling cauldron; and it is tipping away from the north.”

What does Jeremiah 1:13 mean?

When a person is asked what they see and an image rises on its own, it comes from the deeper mind, not from thought. A pot at full boil, tilting to spill, is the picture that mind chose.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

When a person is asked what they see and an image rises on its own, it comes from the deeper mind, not from thought. A pot at full boil, tilting to spill, is the picture that mind chose. Boiling water is feeling under pressure, heat with nowhere to go.

It leans from the north, the cold and darkened direction, the part of life a person has turned away from and refused to face. What is ignored does not cool. It keeps heating until it reaches its limit, then pours out where it can no longer be avoided.

Live Jeremiah 1:13 today

  1. When a strong image or a dream stays with you in the morning, write it down in three lines instead of shaking it off. Read it again tonight and see what it was pointing at.
  2. If the same subject keeps making you snap at someone you love, say so directly: there is something here I have been avoiding. Naming the heat is how you let some of it out.
  3. When the pressure builds at work and you feel it in your jaw and your shoulders, do not wait for the boil. Step away for ten minutes, walk, and ask what you have been refusing to look at.

What have you been keeping the lid on, and how long have you been holding it there?

The same truth in other traditions

Taoism · Zhuangzi

He dreamed he was a butterfly and woke unsure which one he was. The image arrived unbidden and unsettled what his waking mind was certain of.

Buddhism

Feeling that is pushed down does not disappear. It gathers pressure underneath and eventually surfaces in a form you did not choose.

Hinduism · Upanishads

The teaching is that most of a person is below the waking surface, and what happens down there shapes the life above it whether or not anyone is watching.
