EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

'Say not, I am a child.' Notice how quickly the mind defines you with a limiting label: too young, too small, not ready, not enough. This is the ego building an identity out of thought and then hiding behind it to avoid what the present moment is asking.

You are not the story the mind tells about you. Beneath every 'I am too little for this' there is simply awareness, alert and capable, needing no credentials. When you stop feeding the image of the inadequate self and answer what this moment asks, the words arise on their own. The task is met not by the small self but by the presence that was always underneath it.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

The words a person uses about themselves decide what they will attempt, long before anyone checks whether those words are true.

A self-description works like an instruction to the body. Call yourself too young and certainty drains, the state goes small, and the small state produces exactly the hesitation that becomes the next reference, which hardens the label into fact. Yahweh goes after the vocabulary rather than the evidence, because the sentence is where the loop starts.

Youth was accepted as a limit, never tested as one. A man who argues himself out of a room before he enters it never finds out what he could have done inside, and he spends thirty years calling that fence the horizon.

Live Jeremiah 1:7 today

  1. Catch the sentence you keep saying about yourself today, too young, too slow, not the person for this. Say it out loud once and hear how thin it sounds.
  2. Speak up in the meeting or the group chat before you feel qualified to. You will find the words while you are talking, not before.
  3. When something lands on you that you feel unprepared for, take the first small action anyway instead of researching your own inadequacy. The capability shows up in the doing.

What are you waiting to become before you will let yourself begin?

Zen

A student asked how to become a buddha and the teacher asked who was stopping him. The label you carry about yourself is the only thing standing in the doorway.

Bhagavad Gita 2

Arjuna is told that the self which fears was never the real self. What is awake in you was not born and does not need qualifications.

Tao Te Ching 64

The long journey begins with one step, taken where you stand. There is no being ready, there is only the step in front of you.
