Jeremiah 10:2 Meaning Yahweh Says

Yahweh says, “Don’t learn the way of the nations, and don’t be dismayed at the signs of the sky; for the nations are dismayed at them.

What does Jeremiah 10:2 mean?

The signs of heaven are the movements of Uranus and the stars, and the dismay the passage forbids is the fear religion breeds to keep people cowed before the sky. The way of the heathen is the outward path of terror at the heavens, taken by those who read the signs as threats from above rather than as workings a person can meet without fright.

To refuse that way is to keep the inner ground of meditation, the place of spiritual consciousness, unshaken by cosmic omens.

What sounds like a warning against astrology is a warning against the fear itself. The higher mind speaking here denies that the signs above should dismay anyone, since the settled inner self stands calm while only the frightened outward path trembles at them.

Heaven: Uranus and the starry region above, whose signs are read with fear or with calm Signs of heaven: the movements of the heavens that religion turns into objects of dread The way: the inner place of meditation and spiritual consciousness that stays unshaken Lord: the higher mind, the right hemisphere that speaks against fear

Live Jeremiah 10:2 today

  1. Read the news once today at a time you choose, not whenever a notification decides for you. The events are the same, your footing is not.
  2. When a friend sends you something alarming in a group chat, answer with a question instead of the same alarm. One calm voice in a thread does more than another worried one.
  3. When a work message lands and your stomach drops, read it twice before reacting. The second reading is almost always smaller than the first.

What am I treating as a warning that is really just something happening?

Stoicism · Epictetus

Things themselves do not disturb us, our opinions about them do. The sky is just the sky until fear reads a message into it.

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to the still root and you can watch everything rise and fall without being tossed by it. The turning of things is not a threat to the one who is settled.

Bhagavad Gita 2

The steady person is not shaken by what comes and goes, by heat or cold, gain or loss. Events keep arriving, the shaking is optional.
