Jeremiah 12:10 Meaning Many Shepherds Have Destroyed My Vineyard

Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard. They have trodden my portion under foot. They have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness.

What does Jeremiah 12:10 mean?

The vineyard is the inner life of a person, the cultivated ground of consciousness meant to bear the fruit of awakening. The pastors are not merely outer priests but the false inner authorities, the borrowed beliefs and conditioned voices that claim to shepherd the soul and instead lay it waste.

The vineyard is the inner life of a person, the cultivated ground of consciousness meant to bear the fruit of awakening. The pastors are not merely outer priests but the false inner authorities, the borrowed beliefs and conditioned voices that claim to shepherd the soul and instead lay it waste. When these rule, the fertile inner ground is trampled and the mind that should have flourished is left barren, a wilderness where nothing living grows. The desolation is what happens inside when a person hands the care of their own consciousness to voices that do not know how to tend it, and the cultivated self runs to waste.

  1. Scroll with a question in mind: whose voice is this, and do I actually agree with it. Half of what runs your inner commentary arrived without ever being examined.
  2. When someone tells you confidently what you should do with your life or your money, thank them and then sit with it alone before deciding. Advice is useful, obedience isn't.
  3. When pressure pushes you toward the choice everyone expects, ask yourself what you would do if no one were watching. Then decide, with that answer in view.

Whose voice have I been letting run my inner life without ever asking who it is?
