Jeremiah 13:15 Meaning Hear

Hear, and give ear. Don’t be proud, for Yahweh has spoken.

What does Jeremiah 13:15 mean?

To truly hear, something in you must grow quiet and low. Pride is the constant noise of the self that already knows, that is too full of its own commentary to receive anything new.

Ego v. Being

To truly hear, something in you must grow quiet and low. Pride is the constant noise of the self that already knows, that is too full of its own commentary to receive anything new. As long as that voice is running, nothing deeper can reach you, however loudly truth speaks.

What is asked here is not shame but stillness. Set down the anxious, self-important mind, and a space opens in which you can actually listen. When the pride falls silent, you finally hear what was being spoken all along, because you have stopped drowning it out with your own thinking.

Live Jeremiah 13:15 today

  1. On your drive or walk today, leave the podcast off. Let the running commentary in your head slow down on its own and see what is there underneath it.
  2. In one conversation today, listen without preparing your reply while the other person is speaking. When they finish, wait a beat before you say anything.
  3. When someone criticizes you or corrects you, feel the rush to defend yourself and let it pass without acting on it. Ask one real question about what they meant before you respond.

What might you hear if the voice that already knows went quiet for a while?
